It’s a new month. Congratulations on making it past the first quarter of the year. I’ve had a lot of things happen in my life these past few months. A whole lot of great things and a whole lot of bad things too. I lost a friend I held dear, got my door slammed in my face for some opportunities I really wanted and felt a roller coaster of emotions simultaneously. Nevertheless, I always manged to find myself bouncing back up through all the ups and downs (thank you Jesus). Here are the 5 things I did that hopefully can help you if you fin yourself in a similar situation:
1. Accept the situation
I always found myself in denial when I was hit with bad news. It may seem hard to let the truth sink in, but the sooner you accept the situation, the sooner you can move forward. Lost your job? It may feel like it’s a bad dream. Wake up and smell the coffee, get on your feet and start to think of what to do
2. Act, don’t react
After getting into a bad funk, you’ll be tempted to wallow in self pity and all sorts of negative emotions. The state of matters may be upsetting, but reacting may cause more harm than good. If somebody stole money from you, you’ll feel the need to go and beat them up in public, shout at them or plan a revenge plot. Over reacting could get you into trouble. Why not tell the person what they did was wrong and report the case instead of beating them up and then ending up in jail too?

3. Pray
I find immense strength in faith. I always tell myself that God has a greater plan for me and he would not do something for no reason. Even when I found myself dead broke at the end of last month, I prayed about it and somehow I got money from people when I least expected it. God works in such mysterious ways. I cannot even stress this enough.
4. Stay optimistic and plan ahead
A positive mindset and having a visual reminder of your goal goes a long way in empowering you. Get a vision board of your goals. Write down what you want to accomplish and always refer to it. Heck, be like Mary Jane and put sticky notes with inspiring quotes on your wardrobe mirror and bedroom wall. They will constantly remind you of where you want to be and that you can actually get there
5. Implement
It sounds fancy to say you’ll overcome poverty and make a cool vision board but what use are all these if you do not act on them? If you’re still in school, work even harder on your grades. If you want that promotion, perform so well that getting recognized becomes unavoidable. If you want another job, go out and look for it. You have to step out and make sure you reach out for the juicy apples on the tree. Don’t wait for the apples to fall because you will wait a mighty long time
Just remember, if life gives you lemons, make lemonade!
