‘Music is a higher revelation than all wisdom and philosophy’
– Ludwig van Beethoven
I just love live events. There is something about feeling the energy of a crowd and the beauty of the music in real-time. The Jazz Attitude 2.5 event held last week at The Alchemist was everything I hope for in a gig. Good music, good food and hella good vibes!

Jazz Attutude 2.5 had performances from the Guinean Kora Master Sekou Kouyate ft. Shamsi Music, Tetu Shani & Yellow Light Machine. Jazz Attitude is a jazz series that features performances by incredible Kenyan Live acts in a jazz themed setting.
I got there a bit late and missed Tetu Shani’s set but the good news is he uploaded it online.
Yellow Light Machine was just starting when I got there and sounded really good. I wish their set was longer. They mentioned they were only teasing and if we wanted more would have to go to their next gig on 10th September at The Alchemist.

Shamsi Music went on next with such a lovely set. I had to get up and dance!

They were so interactive during their set. I didn’t go back to my seat the whole time. I was dancing like a maniac at the front and my efforts bore fruit because I won a free Shamsi Music CD! (Vunja mifupa kama meno bado iko!)

The Guinean Kora master, Sekou Kouyate, took to the stage last. He has been dubbed the Jimi Hendrix of the Kora by several magazines, has won several awards for his albums and is also part of the renowned West African band “Ba Cissoko” that has toured the world extensively.

The night was not done though. Suraj, who happens to be one of my favourite DJs, made us rock it on the dance floor. I met so many amazing people at this gig. Can’t wait for the next one!
